What Is Courtesy Pay? Courtesy Pay is a service that adds a measure of protection to your personal share draft account. Courtesy Pay may cover your insufficient funds checks, up to your approved limit, for one low fee per covered overdraft transaction. That means, instead of returning a check to the merchant because of insufficient funds, AFCU may pay your check, saving you additional charges from the merchant. It saves you the embarrassment an overdrawn check can cause. It also helps protect your credit rating.
How Does Courtesy Pay Work? AFCU may honor overdrafts on your share draft account, up to a limit of $500. A $20 fee will be assessed for each item paid from an overdrawn account. You then have up to 30 days to bring the account current, either through direct deposit, transfer of funds, or a deposit at one of our branches. Any deposits received by the Credit Union will be applied first to your overdrawn balance.
What If I Already Have Overdraft Protection? If you have established other overdraft protection methods, such as automatic transfer from your other accounts, we will always look to pay any overdrafts by those other methods first before paying your overdraft utilizing Courtesy Pay and imposing a $20.00 fee for each overdraft we pay.
Do I Have To Apply For This Service? No. We require no application or additional signatures. As long as you are at least 18 years old, a member in good standing, and the account has been open for at least 60 days, the Courtesy Pay privilege remains activated. Courtesy Pay is a way for us to provide a higher level of service to our members by helping to protect your account and reputation when an overdraft occurs.
How Can I Access Courtesy Pay? Overdrafts may be paid utilizing your Courtesy Pay funds up to a limit of $500.00 for the following type of transactions: - Checks - Debit Card Transactions - ACH Transactions - ATM Transactions
SPECIAL NOTICE: As a cardholder, it is your responsibility to know the balance in your account. If you do not, we suggest you perform a balance inquiry. On the inquiry there will be two balances. The LEDGER BALANCE is your actual balance. The AVAILABLE BALANCE is your actual balance minus any holds. If you request more than the available balance, the ATM may honor your request. Your account will be overdrawn and you will be charged a Courtesy Pay fee.
Avoid using Courtesy Pay as a short-term loan - it is a costly form of credit and is not designed to be used as such. Good account management is the lowest cost way to prevent overdrafts.
Courtesy Pay Disclosure Courtesy Pay is a service that allows AFCU to pay an item presented for payment against your account even if it causes the account to become overdrawn. An account is considered overdrawn when the actual balance is either negative or is less than any amounts being held against the account. Courtesy Pay may provide certain accountholders in good standing with the ability to overdraw their checking account up to $500.00. The Courtesy Pay limit includes any overdraft fees assessed. If you have established other methods of overdraft protection, such as automatic transfer from your other share accounts, we will look to pay any check by those methods before utilizing Courtesy Pay and imposing a $20.00 fee for each overdraft we pay.
The following are required to be eligible for Courtesy Pay. - The accountholder must be at least 18 years old. - The account has been open for at least 60 days. - The account is in good standing.
Courtesy Pay offers additional flexibility and convenience in managing accountholder funds, and provides peace of mind knowing that items may be paid up to the authorized overdraft limit. Using Courtesy Pay may be more costly than other options we may offer. Please speak to a representative to see if you qualify. This non-contractual courtesy requires no accountholder action. No additional agreements need to be signed and it costs nothing unless the privilege is used. The courtesy can be utilized by initiating checks, electronic funds transfers, point-of-sale, ATM/debit card transactions or other payment or withdrawal requests for more than the balance of the account. If you maintain the account in good standing and have the need for this courtesy, we may, at our sole discretion, pay the item(s) up to the authorized limit, and we will charge the account our Courtesy Pay fee for each item that overdraws the account. We will send you a notice each time an overdraft occurs.
ATMs may honor your request for more than the balance in your account up to the Courtesy Pay limit. As a cardholder, it is your responsibility to know the balance in your account. If you perform a balance inquiry at the ATM there are two balances. The LEDGER BALANCE is your actual balance. The AVAILABLE BALANCE is your actual balance minus any holds. If you request and receive more than the Available Balance your account will be overdrawn and you will be charged a Courtesy Pay fee.
Although you are not charged for using Courtesy Pay unless you have an overdraft, you may opt-out of Courtesy Pay at any time. If you do not want us to pay your overdrafts, you must tell us ("opt-out"). If you receive a direct deposit social security or other federal benefit check, you must opt-out if you do not want us to apply those funds to repay an overdraft.
